Juls.

Saatchi Interactive.

Lo6o mi e.

Zdravejte, my name is Raffaele Cesaro.

I’m very excited to be here and starting to write a new chapter in my professional life.

Back to the past, I was at the high school specializing in art in the early Eighties, and wanted to be a painter, but was told I wasn’t going to be the next Caravaggio. But I was told that I was really full of ideas, and it was suggested I go to design school.

I started my advertising career as visualizer, then moved in NY, working for DMB&B (D’arcy), the agency that created the original, red, Santa Claus icon for  Coca-Cola ads. I moved there in 1992, after studies from the International College of Art and Sciences in Milan and at the School of Visual Art in New York and after the wonderful experience in the fashion arena as graphic designer for Versace.

After DMB&B I’ve moved back to Milano to work with Pirella Göttsche Lowe, where I had the chance to work with two of the great Italian masters like Emanuele Pirella and Michele Göttsche and the honor to work with Frank Lowe the only account manager to have won an Award from the Design and Art Directors Association of London.

In the same years, passion for art and music, led me to open the Fillmore Live Club, created on the basis of pre-existing Cinema Theatre, a club acoustically excellent, with a large array of theatrical stage. Even today, the Club is widely recognized as one of the absolute best sounding of all Italy, as well as an exhibition space.

My big break came in 1996, when Leo Burnett Western Continental hired me to work on Coca-Cola. I spent ten years inside the network working in different countries in Europe, USA and Latin American for the offices in Miami, San Paulo, Lisbon, Madrid, under the guidance of great masters among which, Franco Moretti Chief Creative Officer and is president of ADC*E, Michael Conrad, Vice Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett Worldwide (Under his leadership 27 Leo Burnett agencies were named “Agency Of The Year”, in 2001 Leo Burnett Worldwide was the “Most Awarded Agency In The World” in their countries).

I was part of the team who had been recognized as “Best Agency in the World” in 2004 inside the network and part of the team that led Leo Burnett Italy to the 3rd most creative agency inside the network. Here I worked with great clients like BluTelecommunication, McDonald’s, Philip Morris International, P&G, Fiat International, Indesit Company, just to mention a few.

After 10 years of great and rewarding experience, rich with satisfaction with talented colleagues who gave me the opportunity to create outstanding communications and receive prestigious international awards, I moved to TBWA as Creative Director. Approached by the CCO, my previous ECD, to revitalize the creative reputation of TBWA Italy and manage clients like McDonald’s and Beiersdorf, both locally and internationally. Work in the offices in Paris and Hamburg I was involved by TBWA\Chiat\Day L.A. to work on Apple International, and involved also, to work for Nissan. Here, not only worked with amazing talents but also under the guidance of two other advertising icons – John Hunt and Lee Clow.

Now I’m in Saatchi&Saatchi starting to write a new chapter in my professional life, ready to put all my experience and energy into this new challenge keeping in mind that whilst this is a serious job it can be done with fun.

I’ve tried djolanche, mnogo vkusno.

A Summer to Remember

Helloooo hello, Dara here! After a long attempt to translate this to Bulgarian, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to truly express my feelings using my limited vocabulary… so despite wishing to share it in Bulgarian, English will have to do.

I’ll begin with a short & sweet About Me. I was born in Sofia. I moved to the United States at the age of 6. I’m currently studying economics in Washington, D.C. with an upcoming year abroad at Oxford University. I’m interested in european integration, international economics, and business, marketing, finance etc..

This summer I was a Market Research Intern at Saatchi & Saatchi. Most people ask why I returned to Sofia for a summer internship, and it’s not a difficult question to answer: I love my homeland. I wanted to spent time with my family; I hoped to refine my language skills; and I wished to reconnect with my past.

Interning with Saatchi & Saatchi was truly wonderful. Friendly, open-minded, warmly smiling, and always laughing, the people at Saatchi ensure that everyone feels comfortable and welcome. From the start, I was allowed to attend important meetings and was briefed on a diverse set of projects. I was given insight into how the global advertising agency uses its theory of advertising to reach out and touch human souls.

So while marketing research is not directly related to economics, my internship with Saatchi was incredibly rewarding. It gave me something that books, news sources, and literary journals could not. It asked me to consider everything from the mindset of a Bulgarian, forcing me to see through a different lense, to analyze based on a mentality that I did not (and still do not) understand completely. So next year, when I begin to study european integration, transitions to market economies, economic development, and international economics, my experience and greater understanding here in Bulgaria will help me analyze on a deeper, more personal level.

Still, the highlight of my time here was definitely my travel experiences. Bulgaria has so many hidden treasures. From the Rhodope Mountains, to the majesty of Belogradchik, and the mesmerizing beauty of Melnik, Bulgaria’s wonders deserve to be recognized and explored. I’ve walked through ancient cities, visited countless churches and monasteries, traveled and hiked five mountains, explored four caves, seen three gorges, two tombs, and one absolutely beautiful sea.

Now, with this summer’s ephemeral transition to fall, I must say goodbye or better said “довиждане” to Saatchi & Saatchi, my relatives, and Bulgaria and all of it’s truly beautiful wonders. Thank you so much for giving me this wonderful opportunity to become a part of something unforgettable, something beautiful, thoughtful, and passionate.

Dara Nikolova

P.S. While Serdika Center may be all about “fashion, fashion, and fashion”, Saatchi & Saatchi is all about…well, it requires a longer description.
